3D printing is perhaps one of the greatest marvels of modern times. This technology has countless applications, including creating perfectly custom-fitted prosthetic devices, 3D printed organs and tissues, expertly designed food, and of course car models. To make it easier to access Ford’s iconic vehicle designs, the American carmaker just announced its new 3D store where you can purchase 3D Ford vehicle files to print at home.
“3D printing at home is a growing trend, and it makes sense for us to offer our customers a chance to make their own 3D Ford models,” said Mark Bentley, licensing manager, Ford Global Brand Licensing, in a statement. “At Ford, we’re using 3D printing every day to rapidly prototype parts, and now we want to share that fun with our fans.”
Currently, Ford is offering files for the F-150 Raptor, 2016 Focus RS, 2015 Focus ST, 2015 Fiesta ST, and 2016 Shelby GT 350R. As of this writing, the .STL files only cost $4.99. Ford said it will add more models later.
While you might not be able to afford the full-size version of your Ford dream car, the company’s new 3D printing store will make it easy for you to create a smaller version, helping you dream of your future.
And, just in case you want a 3D model, but don’t have your own 3D printer, you can order a pre-printed model made of blue PLA plastic for $39. Tell us which model you would want to create with a 3D printer at Sun State Ford!
