There are few vehicles that are as iconic as the Ford Mustang. That’s why it comes as no surprise that this legendary pony car recently celebrated two global sales crowns. The Mustang was named the world’s best-selling sports car for 2019, which only further boosts its claim to the title of America’s best-selling sports car of the past 50 years.
“We’re proud of our growing Mustang stable and performance variants,” said Jim Farley, chief operating officer, Ford Motor Company. “From Sweden to Shanghai, more and more driving enthusiasts are enjoying the feeling of freedom and the American open road in these new Mustangs. We are honored to serve our owners, enthusiasts, and fans for 56 years and counting.”
In 2019, Mustang sold 102,090 units around the world, according to new vehicle registration data from IHS Markit. This proves that the Ford Mustang isn’t just an American icon, but a global one. Mustang sales in Germany increased 33 percent, while they rose by nearly 50 percent in Poland. In France, Mustang sales nearly doubled.
This is the fifth year in a row that Mustang has earned the title of best-selling coupe in the world. That includes the Ford Mustang convertible, an ideal option for driving around Orlando in style and soaking up some sunshine.
Currently, Ford offers 12 Mustang models around the globe, including the Mustang BULLITT, Shelby GT350, and the all-new Shelby GT500. Ford will also be introducing the first-ever electric Mustang soon — the Mustang Mach-E, an electric Mustang-inspired SUV.
